SEABROOK - A Maine man who failed to appear in Rochester District Court last month for an arraignment on drunken driving, speeding and reckless operation charges will finally get his arraignment today after he was stopped Tuesday and arrested after a high-speed pursuit in North Hampton.

Justin Demaio, 22, of Stow, Maine, was driving on a suspended license around 8:50 a.m. when Trooper Harrison Walters of Troop A was monitoring traffic on Interstate 95 southbound and observed a 2008 Chrysler 300 traveling at a speed of 92 mph in a posted 65 mph zone.

Walters pursued the vehicle and attempted to initiate a motor vehicle stop, but the driver - later found to be Demaio - refused to stop and was observed throwing items out of his window.

Demaio continued to travel south on Interstate 95, eventually turning into the parking lot of the State Liquor Store. Troopers continued to follow Demaio as he drove to the rear parking lot of the liquor store and reversed his direction. He then drove directly at a State Police cruiser being driven by Trooper Alex Davis, who was able to avoid colliding with Demaio's vehicle.

Demaio then lost control of the Chrysler as he attempted to exit the parking lot and it went off the roadway and struck a large rock, disabling it. He was subsequently taken into custody without incident.

Demaio will be charged with reckless conduct (felony), disobeying a police officer, speeding, destruction of evidence, and operating after suspension.

Additionally, Demaio has an active warrant for his arrest for failure to appear in October for an arraignment at Rochester District Court for charges including DWI, speeding and reckless operation that occurred Sept. 24.

He will be video arraigned today in Rockingham County Superior Court.

Troopers have not yet been able to recover the items thought to have been thrown from Demaio's vehicle during the chase.

This North Hampton incident remains under investigation by Walters. Anyone with information pertaining to this incident is asked to call Walters at 603-223-8490.
