LOWER CUPSUPTIC TOWNSHIP, Maine - A Maine woman died on Monday when she crashed into trees after she failing to make a left-hand turn while snowmobiling.

Marjorie Davan, 52 of Oquossoc, was driving her 2016 Polaris Pro S 600 with a group of friends around 12:25 p.m. when she failed to negotiate a left-hand turn in the trail, and crashed into several small trees. Davan was thrown from the machine.

The crash occurred on ITS 84 in Lower Cupsuptic Township.

No one witnessed the crash but the last member of her group traveling behind her came upon the scene, found her unresponsive, called 911, and began performing CPR. NorthStar Ambulance was the first to respond to the crash, but Davan died at the scene.

An initial investigation by the Maine Warden Service indicates that she was likely traveling too fast entering the turn. Davan was wearing a helmet, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash. Davan was transported to Wiles Funeral Home in Farmington.

The Maine Warden Service was assisted at the crash by NorthStar Ambulance, US Border Patrol, Rangeley Fire Department, and the Rangeley Police Department. More information will be released if it becomes available.
