Man cited for texting as car careens into storefront

ROCHESTER - A Farmington man was summonsed for texting while driving after his car jumped a curb and slammed into a building on Washington Street during the overnight Thursday.

The accident occurred right around midnight when police say a 2016 Nissan Sentra driven by Johnathan Funk, 24 of Farmington, was trying to negotiate a corner in the parking lot while texting and drove over a curb and into the Merrimack Mortgage Company building at 160 Washington St.

The vehicle sustained only moderate damage and was towed from the scene, however, there was significant damage to the building's windows and window support system.

No injuries were reported.

Funk was summonsed for Use of Mobile Electronic Devices While Driving.

The Rochester Police are asking anyone who may have information that could assist with this investigation to call Officer Alexander at 330-7128.
