ROCHESTER - Police say a man staying at a Rochester motel robbed the Irving Circle K on Gonic Road early today, making off with an undetermined amount of cash and merchandise before being apprehended a short time later.

Zachary R Robinson, 22, whose last known address was in Dover, N.H., was charged with robbery, a class B Felony.

The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. when police say they got a call for a robbery from the store clerk, who said she had been robbed, threatened and assaulted by a male suspect. The clerk provided a description of the suspect and said he fled the store on foot.

No weapon was shown during the robbery, but the suspect is alleged to have punched the female clerk several times, Rochester Police Lt. Todd Pinkham said today.

Officers arrived in the area and located fresh shoe impressions in the snow. They followed the impressions into a wooded area not far from the store where they noticed a male matching the description of the suspect in possession of items allegedly stolen from the store.

Robinson was taken into custody without incident, Pinkham said.

The clerk was treated at the scene for minor injuries by Frisbie EMS, but was not transported to hospital.
