CONCORD - A man wanted in connection with a Somersworth police standoff was arrested on Wednesday night at an Alton motel by members of the U.S. Marshal's - New Hampshire Joint Fugitive Task Force.

Robert Twombley, 39, of 219 Green St., Apt. C., Somersworth was taken into custody in connection with probation violations stemming from an original conviction on narcotics charges.

Twombley had been at the center of an 18-hour SWAT-team standoff at his Somersworth apartment house earlier this month.

The standoff ended peacefully and yielded five arrests by the time it ended on May 4, but Twombley, the subject police were most interested in, got away.

During the standoff police were using a bullhorn to urge Twombley to come out peacefully.

The incident closed Green Street between Indigo Hill and Stackpole roads, causing huge headaches for drivers traveling between Somersworth and Dover.

Twombley was arrested on Wednesday on an outstanding Rockingham County warrant.
