ALFRED, Maine - A 24-hour manhunt for a Shapleigh man considered armed and dangerous culminated with his arrest at his mother's house on Tuesday on domestic violence and criminal terrorizing charges and the seizure of assault weaponry and munitions.

Brandon Mahoney, 25, who had several outstanding warrants, was taken into custody around 4:50 p.m. at his mother's residence at 476 Shapleigh Corner Road in Shapleigh.

On Monday Mahoney fled his mother's residence while armed with a firearm after a domestic violence incident there. Deputies checked the home and surrounding area throughout the night in an attempt to locate him.

Knowing he was in possession of a firearm and other tactical gear, as well as his past history of violence, the York County Sheriff's Office posted an alert on social media asking for the public's assistance and a warning not to approach him.

Classes at the Shapleigh Elementary School was canceled and Town Hall was closed over safety concerns.

Unable to locate him, a search warrant was filed to search his mother's home, and the Southern Maine Regional Special Reaction Team conducted a tactical approach and entry to the residence after repeated attempts to initiate contact with him urging him to surrender.

Mahoney was found hiding in a shower stall. Numerous firearms, ammo, tactical gear, and other simulation firearms were seized from the property.

He was transported to the York County Jail and held on no bail pending an arraignment today.

Warrants were secured for Mahoney charging him with domestic violence assault, domestic violence terrorizing, criminal restraint and violating conditions of release from a prior DV incident in May.
