Man who fell off roof improving, now listed as stable

LEBANON - The wife of the Lebanon man who fell while shoveling snow off the roof of their home last month said her husband continues a slow recovery at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the hospital said today he is in stable condition after being listed as critical for more than a week.

“He’s healing slowly,” said Georgia Basko today.  “It could be some time.”

Dr. Paul Basko, a well-respected and liked chiropractor who owns a practice in Springvale, fell while shoveling snow from his Fall Road home on Feb. 22 and had been in an intensive care unit in critical condition ever since until today.

The hospital spokesman could not say, however, whether Paul Basko had been moved from ICU.

It is presumed that the day of the accident his ladder may have slipped on ice or snow as he climbed toward the roof or was getting ready to climb down.

The extent of his injury is unclear but it is believed it possibly involves his back and neck.

Georgia Basko said she couldn’t give a prognosis on her husband’s recovery.

“We’re taking it one day at a time,” she said.
