NORTH SUTTON - Martin Paul Carrier, of North Sutton, widower of Sandra Carrier, died Sunday, September 23, 2018 at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, of complications from treatment for cancer. He was 79.
Born January 13, 1939 in Dover, Marty served in the Navy from 1957 to 1961 and graduated with an associate's degree in accounting from Bentley College in 1964. He worked as a financial officer for several companies in New England, before founding Carrier Business Advisory Services in Manchester in 1991.
Marty lived in Merrimack for 42 years, where he served as a volunteer firefighter, reaching the rank of Deputy Fire Chief, and as a member of the Budget Committee. He also served as a volunteer firefighter in Rochester and Durham. He was a member of the New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs for over 50 years, and served as its treasurer for 20 years. Marty served as the accountant and financial adviser for the Capital Area Fire Mutual and Compact for over 25 years. He was a longtime member of the National Association of Volunteer Fire Chiefs, and was also a member of the New Hampshire Federation of Fire Mutual Aid Districts. In recent years, Marty also served as the Emergency Management Director and Treasurer for the town of Sutton.
Marty is survived by his sister, Claudette Gagnon and her husband Frank, of Chesapeake, Va.; his son, Ronald Carrier, Chicago, Ill.; his daughter, Susan Carrier and her husband Gary Dombrowski, of Chester Springs, Pa.: and two grandchildren, Paige and Andrew Dombrowski.
