MILTON - Firefighters from surrounding communities assisted Milton Fire and Rescue in battling a blaze that broke out early Tuesday at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp Resort in Milton.

Milton safety officials said that a resident of Sewell Shores Road in Lebanon, Maine, first saw the flames erupt across Northeast Pond and called 911.

When firefighters arrived on scene around 1 a.m. they found the campground's headquarters building fully engulfed.

Fire had also spread to several other buildings, prompting a second alarm to be struck bringing firefighters from Middleton, New Durham, as well as Lebanon and Acton, Maine.

Safety officials later learned no one was in the buildings that burned and everyone was accounted for.

Some 30,000 gallons of water were used to bring the fire under control, Milton fire officials said. The camp's main office and store was a total loss.

The state Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the incident.

Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp Resort praised the work of first responders following the fire.

"Your bravery is honorable and we are beyond grateful for all of your help," they said in a statement. "Thankfully everyone is safe and nobody was harmed."
