MILTON MILLS - We are thrilled to announce that the Milton Free Public Library has been awarded a grant of $60,700 from the New Hampshire Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) to help with repairs to our beautiful and historic building. LCHIP is an independent state authority created by the legislature in 2000 to ensure the perpetual contribution of natural, cultural and historic resources to the economy, environment, and quality of life in New Hampshire. LCHIP does this by providing matching grants to New Hampshire municipalities and non-profits to conserve and preserve the state's heritage. LCHIP grant recipients are required to match each dollar contributed by LCHIP with a minimum of one additional dollar, and to complete the funded projects according to the program's rigorous standards. This year's awards of $4.3 million will be matched by more than $15 million in funding from other public and private sources, infusing a total of more than nineteen million dollars into the state's
economy in direct project activity. We are grateful to LCHIP for this important funding! Read the full press release here. (https://miltonfreepubliclibrary.us13.list-manage.com/track/click?u=edcb6918a5b95b583f64951d8&id=dd2c632e7a&e=c79ac00541)
** Attention Milton High Schoolers!
------------------------------------------------------------
It's that time of year again! Fun Fan Fiction is an opportunity for all high school students in Milton (including homeschoolers) to take a favorite, or not so favorite, book and give it a new scene, a new ending or a new character - whatever you think the story needs to be truly excellent. Hated the sad ending, infuriated by the choices a character made, or just wish things had gone a little differently? This is your chance to fix it. Our judges are looking for creativity, clarity and originality. Spelling, punctuation and grammar all count. Entries are due on Wednesday, February 8. Nute students will turn in their entries at school and homeschoolers can return their entries to the library, in person or via email. Prizes will be announced and presented at Nute on Wednesday, February 15. ** Fun Events Coming in February
------------------------------------------------------------
We have two events to look forward to in February! On Saturday, February 4th we'll be celebrating "Take Your Child to the Library Day". Join us for games, stories, crafts and snacks. On Saturday, February 18, the Children's Museum of New Hampshire will join us for a special play-based program called "Engineering a Fairy Tale". Children 4+ will have an opportunity to engage in engineering challenges like building a boat with foil and each activity is based on a fairytale or familiar story. Kids will have a great time and caregivers can learn the value of play-based learning and pick up a few skills and ideas for the future. We'll have more information soon and we hope you'll plan to join us for these fun events!
** Gingerbread House Winners
------------------------------------------------------------
We didn't get a chance to share with you in December how much fun we had judging the gingerbread house competition at Milton Recreation's Breakfast with Santa event. It was tough to choose! Friends of Milton Free Public Library and staff finally chose three winners: Arianna Garabedian, Zoey Brown, and Hanna Cartier (pictured from left to right). Each winner received a $25 gift certificate to Ira Miller's General Store from the Friends. Great job, everyone!
** Love Libraries?
------------------------------------------------------------
Become a patron! The nicest thing you can do for us in the new year is become a patron and encourage your friends to do so, too. Your local library has so much to offer. We look forward to seeing you soon!
