PORTLAND, Maine - Police say a Milton woman was arrested on Monday after she drove recklessly on the Maine Turnpike, hitting another car and a median guardrail before struggling with State Troopers as they took her into custody.

The incident unfolded around 2:30 p.m. as Maine State Police responded to complaints of a white 2022 Honda Accord traveling recklessly at high rates of speed, passing vehicle in all lanes, including the breakdown lane.

The driver of the car, 33-year-old Caitlin Black of Milton, N.H., was traveling northbound on the turnpike when she took Exit 44 (I-295) and crashed into a median guardrail. She then continued north and hit a car, coming to a stop between exits 4 and 5 where troopers attempted to stop her.

She fled the scene, however, and continued to drive until her car came to a stop at Exit 6A.

Black, who was uncooperative as troopers took her into custody, was arrested and taken to Maine Medical Center for an evaluation before being brought to the Cumberland County Jail.

Dept. of Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said within the last hour that she was informed the Cumberland County Jail would not take Black, so there is no booking photo. She was summonsed and released.

Black was charged with driving to endanger, OUI, assault and refusing to submit to arrest.
