MERRIMACK - An 89-year-old Merrimack man, previously reported missing, has been located deceased.

At about 7 a.m. on Monday the Merrimack Police Department was notified that Jon Carter had left his home on Carter Street sometime overnight and had not returned. Family members reported Carter was last seen at approximately midnight, according to safety officials.

An extensive search effort was immediately initiated in the area surrounding his home involving members of the Merrimack Police Department, Merrimack Fire Rescue and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. Search efforts included a canvas of Carter's neighborhood and the review of residential surveillance footage, which helped investigators track portions of his movements overnight.

Around 11 a.m., Carter was located in Baboosic Lake. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Members of the New Hampshire State Police - Marine Patrol, along with detectives from Troop G, responded to assist with the investigation.

At this time, Carter's death is being investigated as a possible drowning. It is not considered suspicious. An autopsy is scheduled for today at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to contact Trooper First Class Christopher Prenaveau at (603) 223-8620 or at Christopher.J.Prenaveau@dos.nh.gov.
