WASHINGTON- NewsMatch opens today with more than $3 million in matching support for nonprofit newsrooms across the U.S, including The New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism, which publishes InDepthNH.org.

The campaign doubles donations to 155 nonprofit newsrooms in nearly every state across the country through Dec. 31, 2018. Founded three years ago by veteran journalist Nancy West, the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism is the only nonprofit newsroom in the state to qualify for NewsMatch.

NewsMatch is the largest grassroots fundraising campaign to support nonprofit news organizations. Individuals can learn more, donate and join the movement to support trusted, nonprofit news organizations. Go to newsmatch.org today to donate to the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism, your trusted, nonprofit news organization.

This is the third year of NewsMatch, and the number of nonprofit news organizations participating in the campaign jumped by more than 40 percent since last year. Each organization is eligible to receive a total of $25,000 in matching funds for small-dollar up to $1,000 donations from individuals.

NewsMatch is designed to help fuel a surge in giving to local and investigative reporting and strengthen nonprofit newsrooms through training and shared resources.

"Now more than ever, nonprofit newsrooms across the country are filling information gaps in communities," said Sue Cross, Executive Director and CEO of the Institute for Nonprofit News. "This year's NewsMatch campaign will enable organizations to raise critical support, which will ensure they have the resources necessary to continue to provide fact-based, local quality journalism for years to come."

NewsMatch is driven by the Institute for Nonprofit News and the News Revenue Hub, two organizations helping build more sustainable models for journalism in America. The campaign is supported by a diverse group of foundations including Democracy Fund, the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation, the Gates Family Foundation (through the Colorado Media Project), the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, and the Wyncote Foundation. The Miami Foundation serves as fiscal sponsor for the fund.

NewsMatch added several major donors in 2018, including a $1 million contribution from the Facebook Journalism Project and $250,000 from the Jonathan Logan Family Foundation, which supports investigative journalism around the country.

Other foundations and corporate partners can still join the NewsMatch fund and help make 2018 the largest year for nonprofit news giving ever. Donors and funders who are interested in supporting individual newsrooms or groups of newsrooms in a region or around a topic during NewsMatch are invited to contact The Miami Foundation's Lindsey Linzer (LLinzer@miamifoundation.org) to find out more.

Knight Foundation launched the inaugural NewsMatch in 2016, helping 57 nonprofit news organizations raise more than $2.4 million. In 2017, the campaign expanded to include a coalition of funders and helped support important coverage of a wide range of topics including education, immigration, conservation, local government and criminal justice. It raised $4.8 million for nonprofit news organizations, equipped them with professional fundraising, tools and technology and cultivated over 43,000 new donors.

Donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law. To donate to IndepthNH.org click here.

Participating nonprofit news organizations are all members of the Institute for Nonprofit News and abide by guidelines of editorial independence and financial transparency.
