Nashua man perishes in house fire thought to have started in basement

NASHUA - A Nashua man died in a Saturday night house fire that is believed to have started in the basement.

Fire crews responded around 7:15 p.m. to the residence at 8 Meadowbrook Drive, where they found heavy smoke and fire.

The victim was located on the first floor. He was taken to Southern New Hampshire Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased.

The New Hampshire Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire, which is believed to have started in the basement. The cause remains under investigation.

An autopsy on the victim will be conducted by the State Medical Examiner's Office on Monday.
