New commander takes helm of Troop A barracks

ALFRED, Maine - The State Police barracks in Alfred that covers Lebanon has a new commander today.

Bill Ross was sworn in as Troop A lieutenant on Friday, taking over for Lt. Louis Nyitray who retired earlier this year.

Ross is a 16-year veteran of law enforcement, including 12 years with State Police. He also served with New York City Police and with Portland Police before joining State Police in 2002. Ross' most recent assignment was with the department's Professional Standards Division (formerly known as Internal Affairs), where he served as a sergeant.

The ceremony took place at Alfred Town Hall, hosted by the Board of Selectmen.

Troop A is responsible for York County and Interstate 295 between Scarborough and Brunswick.
