ROCHESTER - Police say a New Durham man was driving drunk and without a license on Tuesday when he crashed his car on Rochester Hill Road and then sought to elude officers by walking on foot to Somersworth where he was later arrested.

The incident began almost routinely Tuesday evening when officers were summoned to Rochester Hill Road near Profile Apartments for a report of a single vehicle that had gone off the roadway and struck a utility pole.

Upon arrival, officers located a 2006 Infinity G35 to the side of the road, but the driver was nowhere to be found. It was reported he had left on foot toward Somersworth.

An officer checked the area and came across footwear impressions in the fresh snow leading away from the scene, police said in a statement. The officer followed the tracks into Somersworth and with the assistance of the Somersworth Police Department and other Rochester officers, caught up to the suspect whereupon he had fled.

After a brief foot pursuit in the swampy area between Whitehouse Road and Interstate Drive - almost a mile from the crash scene - John McGlone, 32, of New Durham, was arrested for conduct after an accident, DWI, resisting arrest or detention, operating without a valid license and unregistered vehicle.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

McGlone was booked with cash bail was set at $1,500, and then transported to Strafford County Jail pending an arraignment later today.

Anyone with any information regarding this incidentis asked to contact Officer Brittney Marvin of the Rochester Police Department at 330-7128.
