CONCORD - New Hampshire's Secretary of State is predicting a record number of Republicans will turn out for Tuesday's primary while much fewer Democrats are expected to head to the polls given that President Biden is not even on the ballot and an incumbent rarely sparks high turnout.

Secretary of State David M. Scanlan on Friday said his department expects some 322,000 Republicans will show up to vote compared to 88,000 Democrats.

His estimates are based in part on the number of absentee ballots already applied for.

As of Friday, the number of voters who have requested absentee ballots is as follows:

Republicans: 16,767

Democrats: 9,395

Total: 26,162

Also as of Friday the number of registered voters in New Hampshire, broken down by party, is as follows:

Republicans: 267,768

Democrats: 261,254

Undeclared: 344,335

Total: 873,357
