New martial arts academy opens up in Gonic

GONIC - Forged Self Defense, a multi-faceted studio offering a wide variety of physical activities for folks of all ages, recently opened in Gonic.

"At Forged Self Defense and Fitness Academy, our goal is to teach realistic self-defense in a fun, safe, and clean environment through our dynamic programs," said Matthew Spink, owner and head instructor.

Spink has been teaching martial arts for 20 years and studying them for 30 years. He studied Karate, Kickboxing, Boxing, Krav Maga, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

He also holds a fifth-degree Karate black belt under the World Martial Arts Federation and a Krav Maga black belt.

"Our mission is to build up our students into confident and capable individuals," said Spink. "Through the practice of martial arts, we aim to positively influence and support our students so they can become more successful in life."

Forged Self Defense offers classes in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga, and a wide variety of classes for kids.
