MILTON - The incoming superintendent of SAU #64 said he is looking forward to building relationships with the district’s three school boards and moving forward with an effort that will provide as many opportunities for students as possible.

Michael Tursi will take the helm of the district’s three schools on July 1, taking over for Jay McIntire who has accepted the superintendent’s position in Brewer, Maine.

Tursi, 43, grew up in Henrico County, Va., and attended Mills E. Godwin High School before earning his bachelor’s in geology at Radford University in Virginia.

He went on to earn his master’s in education at Plymouth State University and most recently was employed by the Manchester Schools Department as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.

Tursi said he is excited to learn about the goals and aspirations of the school boards and the communities they represent.

“I want to provide as many opportunities for students as I can,” he said on Friday.

This will be Tursi’s first stint as superintendent. He will begin the first year of a three-year contract on July 1.
