KEENE - A Bennington woman who stole a car and led police on a wild high speed chase was arrested on multiple charges after police deployed stop sticks that ended the pursuit in Keene.

The incident unfolded Thursday around 1:30 p.m. when State Police from Troop C were made aware of a reported stolen vehicle from Tire Warehouse located on Route 9 in Chesterfield.

Initial information was that the theft of a 2019 Dodge Ram Promaster Van had just occurred, and the vehicle was believed to be traveling eastbound on Route 9 toward Keene.

Troopers and local officers from the Chesterfield and Keene Police departments responded to the area, and made contact with the vehicle in the area of Chesterfield Hill, where a trooper attempted to stop the vehicle.

The suspect, however, accelerated away at a high rate of speed, initiating a pursuit east on Route 9.

During the pursuit, the operator drove aggressively and recklessly, crossing into oncoming traffic, driving off the roadway, and at one point colliding with a mobile home that was being hauled as part of an oversized load transport. Lawmen were soon able to successfully deploy tire-deflation devices to the van in two separate locations, and the pursuit came to an end at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 101 in Keene, where the operator, Angela Elliott, 33, was taken into custody without incident.

Elliott was charged with theft by unauthorized taking and reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, both felonies, as well as disobeying an officer.

(Misdemeanor). She refused bail and is being held pending arraignment in Cheshire County Superior Court today.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Trooper Noah Sanctuary via Troop C dispatch at 603-223-8494 or via email at Noah.R.Sanctuary@dos.nh.gov
