SANFORD, Maine - A Sanford man has been charged with a bail violation for being in contact with his girlfriend in the early hours of June 10, the same night police found her lying unconscious in a road near her home.

At first police thought the 39-year-old woman may have been the victim of foul play, but on Tuesday Sanford Police Det. Matt Gagne said they have found that wasn't the case.

Eric Jackson, 41, of Sanford, however was charged with a violation of conditions for being with her that night.

The woman was found on the pavement near the intersection of Twombley Road and Holly Street around 3 a.m.

She was found to have sustained a serious head injury and taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Police on Tuesday did not release the cause of her head injury or other minor injuries sustained in other parts of her body.
