ROCHESTER - Rochester Police say they still haven't received test information that resulted from search warrants executed in the beating case of a woman in the Planet Fitness parking lot last month.

Once those results are received, police may move forward with the arrest of a man suspected in the case, Rochester Police Capt. Jason Thomas said today.

Thomas said the suspect is in his 20s, but would not give a hometown or any other description of the man.

He said the victim in the case, a Planet Fitness service rep, is being kept apprised of the situation.

The company doing the tests has provided no timetable for when they will be completed, Thomas added.

"This was not a random attack, it was a targeted attack, so the public is not at risk," he said.

The brutal beating of eighteen-year-old Erin McCarthy of Rochester took place June 12 as she left the North Main Street Planet Fitness around 10 p.m. after her shift was over.

The suspect was interviewed by police back on June 23, then sought legal counsel soon after.

Surveillance video captured the entire minute and a half beating that included nearly 40 blows to the head and torso, but police have only released a short clip that shows the suspect methodically getting out of his car as McCarthy is seen walking toward hers.

The suspect then can be seen walking up to her from behind and delivering a right hand to the back of her head.

Facebook posts by McCarthy, a PF service rep, suggest the suspect waited for her in the parking lot for about eight hours, however Thomas has said he can't comment on that aspect as it is also currently under investigation.

A police press release indicates she was punched multiple times and thrown to the ground after which the male suspect got in his car and drove away.
