ROCHESTER - Norman Edward Weldy III "Ed," 57, died unexpectedly on Friday, December 30, 2016, in Rochester.
He was born July 3, 1959, in Newton, Mass., son of Norman E. Weldy Jr. and the late Virginia (Uhlman) Weldy.
Ed grew up in Kingston, Raymond, and Atkinson, N.H. He attended Sanborn Regional High School in Kingston before enlisting into the Marines. Ed served honorably for six years total, five years stationed in Hawaii and one year stationed in New Jersey.
Ed was a longtime heavy equipment diesel mechanic and worked combined for many years with Joe's Auto in Epping, S&J Trans. in Lee, N.H., and lastly with Rochester Truck in Rochester. He had resided the last 15 years in Rochester.
Since 1986, Ed had many great times doing mechanical work as part of the pit crew for his brother, Lee Weldy and Lee's racing team. They traveled to different tracks and raced starting out with Hobby Stocks, then progressed to Street Stocks, Pro Stock and Busch North Car Racing. Ed was also an avid NASCAR fan.
He enjoyed attending the Emmanuel Advent Christian Church in Rochester.
Ed was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Weldy.
He is survived by his lifetime partner, Burnette Colbath; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Michael Flaherty; daughter, Carley Michelle Weldy; granddaughter, Crystina; father and stepmother, Norman and Linda Weldy Jr.; brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Madelyn Sullivan; sister and brother-in-law, Donna and Rolie Boucher; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Cheryl Weldy; sister, Debbie Weldy; sister and brother-in-law, Rhonda and Alberto Crespo; brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Sharon Weldy; and several nieces and nephews.
