ROCHESTER - Daniel William Macker of 54 Riverview Drive, Rochester, died at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, Mass. on Aug. 3, 2013, of myocardial infarction three days after his most recent heart operation, at age 62.

Born John Alan Nickerson on June 23 June, 1951, in Tewksbury, Mass., Daniel was the second of three adopted children of Corinne (Horton) and Roger Kermit Macker, both of whom predeceased him.

He is survived by his younger adopted brother, Richard H. Macker of Sisters, Ore., and his adopted sister, Virginia A. (and Ken) Perry of Wolfeboro; also by his nephew Justin K

A (and Heidi) Perry and grand-nephew Jonah E.A. Perry, of North Berwick, Maine. Daniel is also survived by his cherished partner of recent years, Marjorie A. Hunt of Rochester and his cousins Charles (and Janice) Hewitt of Bradford, and Kenneth (& Pamela) Hewitt of Pompano Beach, Fla.

Adopted at age 5 from the Boston's New England Home for Little Wanderers, Daniel was raised thereafter in Berkley, and then Lakeville, Mass. He was a graduate of Apponequet Regional High School.

After his four years of service in the Air Force as a Ground Equipment Repairman, he lived in Lakeville, West Tisbury (Mass.), Wolfeboro, and finally Rochester. In Massachusetts he was employed by the Dukes County Forest and then a local bank. In New Hampshire, he was employed part time, until 2011 by the Wolfeborough Diner.

A military history buff, Daniel was active in Military re-enactor groups and participated in the 200th anniversary re-enactment of Rochambeau's 1781 march from Newport, R.I., to Yorktown, Va. Moving to Wolfeboro in 2000, he was soon an active member of Harriman-Hale Post 18 of the American Legion, serving as Chaplain, 1st Vice Commander, and Commander; at the time of his death he was serving as 2nd Vice Commander.

Per his request, Dan's cremated remains will be interred at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. Arrangements have been by the Baker-Gagne Funeral Home of Wolfeboro.

Donations in Dan's memory may be made to the Harriman-Hale American Legion Post 18, PO Box 146, Wolfeboro, N.H. 03894.
