ROCHESTER - George H. Smith, 80, of 140 Eagle Drive died Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a long illness.

He was born March 15, 1933, in Canton, Mass., the son of George A. and Charlotte (Johnson) Smith. George served our country in the Navy for 33 years and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge in Derry. He owned and operated Orion Microwave Company for many years

George had a passion for the bagpipes and was a sergeant in the Scots Highland Pipe Band for many years.

He enjoyed going to art class and enjoyed sitting on his deck with a good book. George was known affectionately as Grandpa, Gramps, Piper George.

Members of his family include his wife of 39 years, Joan (Radley) Smith of Rochester; sons, Fred Smith and wife Claire of Wilton; William Smith; Michael Rossen and wife Julie of. Hooksett; Ronnie O. Rossen and wife Allison of West Springfield, Mass.; Randall R. Rossen of Casco, Maine; his daughter, Julie Stevens and husband Seth of Nottingham, many grandchildren and great grandchildren; siblings, Patricia Arling, Merrimack, Mass., Rusty Smith Foxborough, Mass. and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Martin Rossen and brother Philip Smith.
