TROY - One person is dead and another seriously injured after an early-morning house fire in Troy.
Fire crews got involved around 1:45 a.m. today after a person inside the house at 51 Morse St. called 911 and reported that a fire had started in the chimney and was extending to the porch of the home.
An additional 911 call from the house at 1:50 a.m. relayed that they were trapped inside the home because of the spreading fire.
When members of the Troy Fire Department arrived at the scene minutes later they found heavy fire conditions at the home, according to a release from the Dept. of Safety. When firefighters entered the burning residence they found two people and brought them outside where they provided immediate emergency medical care.
A 56-year-old man was transported to Cheshire Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased, and a 24-year-old woman was taken by Life Flight Air Ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital with serious injuries. She was listed in critical condition.
An unknown numbers of pets also died in the fire, safety officials said.
An autopsy will be conducted by the New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to determine the cause and manner of death of the adult male.
While the investigation is in its early stages, investigators do not believe the fire is suspicious in nature. Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is encouraged to contact the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal's Office at (603) 223-4289 or fmo@dos.nh.gov.
