One dead, three injured in Highland Street crash near Eastern Ave

EAST ROCHESTER - One motorist was killed and another three injured on Friday after two vehicles collided on Highland Street near Eastern Avenue.

The crash was called in around 11:10 a.m., when Rochester Police were called for a serious crash in which one person was trapped and smoke was coming from a vehicle.

Upon arrival emergency personnel found two heavily damaged vehicles in the roadway, including a Hyundai Sonata in which the driver was found deceased.

In the other car, an Acura, one of three occupants was in fact trapped.

The driver of the Acura was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries and the two passengers were transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.

The Strafford County Regional Accident Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation.

The area around the accident scene was closed for approximately four hours while investigators processed the scene.

The accident remains an ongoing active investigation and no further details are being released at this time. Police are not releasing the names of any vehicle occupants as they continue to notify next of kin and respect the wishes of the families involved as they notify family of the accident as well.

NH DOT Division Six assisted with the road closure as well as NH State Police. Strafford County Sheriff's deputies assisted with traffic and helping respond to calls for service while the accident was being investigated.
