GONIC - Gonic Road was shut down for about an hour this morning after a two-car collision.

The crash occurred in the area of Gonic Road and Church Street around 7:15 a.m. when police say a northbound 2010 Ford F150 pickup driven by Jason B. Cole, 17, of Gonic, was struck by a 2016 Chevy Equinox driven by Cheryl A. McCarthy, 59, of Gonic.

Police say McCarthy was stopped at the stop sign on Church Street before proceeding out onto Gonic Road. At the same time a box truck traveling north in front of Cole's vehicle was in the right turn lane to turn right onto Church Street; as McCarthy started to pull out onto Gonic Road to head south she struck Cole's vehicle.

Both vehicles sustained heavy damage and were towed from the scene. Cole and his 15 year old passenger were wearing seat belts, and were not injured. McCarthy was also wearing her seat belt; she was transported to Frisbie Memorial Hospital by Frisbie EMS with what were described as nonlife threatening injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. Anyone that may have witnessed the accident is asked to call Officer Murphy at 603-330-7128.
