Moose Mountains Regional Greenways invites the public to join in celebrating its recent acquisition of the Branch River Conservation Area, located between the villages of Union and Sanbornville in Wakefield. The 'Paddle and Pub' event will combine an after-work paddle on the portion of the Branch River running through the new property, followed by an optional social gathering at the Poor People's Pub in Sanbornville. Paddlers are asked to bring their own boats for the outing, which will take place starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 (rain date: 3 pm on Sept. 25).

The 21-acre BRCA has 5,000 feet of river frontage along the Branch River as it flows between Routes 16 and 153. MMRG Executive Director Patti Connaughton-Burns and Education Coordinator Kari Lygren will guide participants for about an hour of paddling along this scenic stretch of the river. Paddlers will enjoy the pristine wetland habitats, potential sightings of a variety of birds and mammals, as well as views of an uplands forested knoll. Read more about this unique property at www.mmrg.info.

Please preregister; call Kari Lygren at (603) 978-7125 or email info@mmrg.info. Pub dinner is not included although individuals may opt to purchase their own and a cash bar is available. Paddlers should wear US Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices and sign a waiver. Children 12 years or older and accompanied by an adult are welcome, however, pets are not allowed.
