STRAFFORD - Peter H. Warburton, 74, of Strafford, died peacefully at home on Friday, April 14, after a brief illness. Peter was born on March 9, 1949, in Rochester, the son of the late Henry and Madelyn Berry Warburton, and was raised in Somersworth. He attended Holy Trinity School and Somersworth High School and enjoyed many wonderful adventures with his six siblings and many neighborhood friends. Throughout his life, Peter always brought a smile and a spirit of generosity and warmth, and he shared his calm and gentle demeanor with everyone he encountered.

He was the devoted and joyful husband of Jennifer Snow of Strafford, father of Griffin, Henry (Rachel Gabrilowitz), Zachary, and Courtney (Brian Rhuland), and grandfather to Xander, Kaden, Jakobe, and Jace. Peter loved nothing more than to support his children and grandchildren in their various activities, and spent countless hours at cross-country meets, baseball, basketball, softball, and hockey games, as well as theater productions, band concerts, piano recitals, and art shows. Recently, he and four-year-old Xander could be found playing the ukulele together, collaborating on new compositions.

Peter was most recently a superintendent of schools at SAU #53 and was excited to be part of the new Allenstown Community School building project. Peter also served as superintendent of SAU #39, which includes Amherst, Mont Vernon, and Souhegan Cooperative School Districts.

His passion for education began when he served as a Peace Corps volunteer, teaching English in South Korea. Upon his return, he taught English at Somersworth Middle School and quickly rose to assume roles as assistant principal at Northwood School, Kingswood Regional Middle School, and Londonderry Middle School. He then became principal of Barrington Middle School.

Peter earned his bachelor's degree at St. Anselm College, a master's degree in Educational Administration from the University of New Hampshire, and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study at Plymouth State University.

Love of the arts was evidenced by Peter's longtime service on the New Hampshire Council on the Arts beginning in 2011. In 2017, he received the New Hampshire Art Educators' Association Outstanding Service Award. He was always eager to encourage artists of all ages to pursue their interests.

Peter and Jen enjoyed the greenhouse they built at their home (Root Beer River Farm at Freckled Rock). They were especially pleased to make weekly contributions to the local food pantry. Peter also loved spending time at their home on Squam Lake with family and friends. He particularly appreciated long boat rides on the lake, observing and photographing loons and other wildlife.

In addition to his wife and children, Peter is survived by his siblings, Michael Warburton (Karen), Mary Bouthiette (Jim), Brian Warburton (Kim), John Warburton (Tina), Anne Camire (Dan), and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind Jen's four sisters and their families, with whom he enjoyed spending time. In addition to his parents, Peter was predeceased by his sister Noreen Duquette (Randy).
