DOVER, N.H. - Local residents are getting calls from individuals stating that they are from the Sheriff's Office, or another law enforcement agency, and providing false information that they will be arrested, if they do not comply with their demands.

"Citizens should not give out any information regarding their bank accounts or any personal information at all," a Wednesday press release notes. "If you have any outstanding warrant for civil matters or any pending civil process from the Strafford County Sheriff's Office, you will always receive written correspondence from this agency. "

If folks do get calls such as these they are asked to report it to local police and the Consumer Protection & Antitrust Division of the NH Attorney General's Office at 603-271-3641.

The scammers are known to program phone caller ID to list the phone number of the Strafford County Sheriff's Office.

For more information contact the Strafford County Sheriff's Office at 603-742-4960.
