Police: 3 arrested after car stolen from Milton

NEWPORT, N.H. - A traffic stop by State Police in Newport, N.H., on Sunday yielded a suspect in the theft of a car from Milton as well as bank robberies in two New Hampshire cities, including Dover.

It all began around 3 p.m. when a state trooper stopped a 1998 Honda Civic on Route 11/103 in Newport for several motor vehicle violations.

During the course of the stop it was learned the vehicle had been reported stolen in Milton.

One of the passengers, James D. Whinnem, 34, of Somersworth was wanted by both Manchester and Dover Police Departments on felony bank robbery charges.

The driver, Joshua P. Dematos, 32, of Farmington, N.H., was wanted by the Farmington Police on several warrants, including felony receiving stolen property, felony and misdemeanor possession of a controlled drug and misdemeanor possession of burglary tools. State Police charged him with receiving stolen property, a felony as well as driving under suspension, a misdemeanor.

Another passenger, Christina A. Robinson, 36, of Farmington, was wanted by the Farmington Police Department on felony possession of a controlled drug, conspiracy to commit receiving stolen property and misdemeanor possession.

Dematos and Robinson are are also wanted by Middleton Police in connection with at least one burglary case, officials said.

Milton Police Chief Richard Krauss said today that the vehicle was stolen off White Mountain Highway and they are continuing their investigation into whether vehicular theft charges will be forthcoming.

The case remains under investigation and further charges are possible, State Police said. All three suspects are being held at the Sullivan County House of Corrections pending arraignments.
