ROCHESTER - A 30-mile police pursuit of a Groveton man that began Saturday in Gilmanton ended in Rochester when the suspect abandoned his crippled pickup near the Rochester Ice Arena and was corralled by police.

Rochester Police got involved a little before 6 p.m. when they responded to the area of Farmington Road to assist the Farmington Police Department and Alton Police Department with a motor vehicle pursuit involving a vehicle that failed to stop.

The call originated from a motor vehicle complaint involving a silver Toyota Tacoma pickup truck in Gilmanton.

When the pursuit was called off by the initiating agency Rochester officers followed marks in the roadway caused by one of the truck's tires that had deflated causing the rim to imprint the pavement.

Several residents called in additional sightings of the vehicle and it was located at the Rochester Ice Arena on Lowell Street where the driver had left the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police then set up a perimeter around the wooded area and using a description provided by a witness were able to arrest him without incident.

"When he came out of the woods he saw us and knew the jig was up and he just sort of sat down," Rochester Sgt. Michael Miehle said today.

Ultimately the Rochester Police Department was able to determine that the vehicle had been reported stolen by the registered owner. The suspect was identified as Joshua Warren, 30 of Groveton. He was charged by the Rochester Police Department with Resisting Arrest/Detention, Conduct After an Accident (X2), Reckless Conduct, Disobeying an Officer, False Report to Law Enforcement, Criminal Threatening, Receiving Stolen Property and attempted Violation of a Protective Order.

He was also arrested on a warrant from the Northumberland Police Department for Second Degree Assault (X5), Domestic Violence - Assault, Domestic Violence - Obstructing the Report of a Crime or Injury, Domestic Violence - False Imprisonment and Criminal mischief. Other charges may be forthcoming for other jurisdictions.
