Surveillance images show the two suspects, including one wearing a bright orange caution vest, possibly trying to appear as a late night technician working on the ATM.

ROCHESTER - When Rochester Police reported an attempted "jackpotting" at a local bank early Saturday morning, many in the area had never heard of it, but jackpotting schemes have been taking place for more than a decade, according to ExpressVPN.com, a website that offers streaming and browsing security for clients.
Unlike what occurred often in the Rochester area in 2014 when fraudsters used forged or stolen credit cards that victimized individual account holders, the jackpotting scheme uses malware to cause a vulnerable ATM to cough out tens of thousands of dollars of bank money in just minutes.
All the fraudsters meed is to install the malware and then use a laptop or even a smartphone to trigger the ATM to dispense the cash.
There were multiple jackpotting cases across the nation last year, including a spree in Kansas, another where three were arrested in an Illinois jackpotting attempt and one in Virginia where $175,000 was stolen from a Fairfax County bank.
Often accomplices try to pose as a "technician" doing service work at odd hours as one of the two suspects did on Friday.
One of the surveillance pictures released by Rochester Police shows a man in a bright yellow caution vest holding a phone next to the machine.
Another of the suspects is also seen holding a phone by the drive-thru.
Both men arrived at the scene in a dark-colored vehicle between 12 and 3 a.m., police say.

Rochester Police Capt. Jeremy Aucoin said today that they don't have any suspects, but are working with other agencies as they try to develop new leads in the case. He also believes they could very well not be local.

"There is a possibility that they could be from out of state as other surrounding states have had somewhat of similar incidents along the coastal area," Aucoin stated..

This isn't the first time a New Hampshire ATM has been hit.

Last February a Romanian national was charged in a jackpotting theft at Bell Brothers in Pittsfield, where more than $6,000 was stolen.

The Rochester investigation is active and ongoing.
