Police investigating cruiser crash in the downtown; no word yet on cause, injuries

ROCHESTER - Rochester Police and Fire are currently on the scene of an accident involving a Rochester Police cruiser that occurred a little before 11 a.m.
It was not clear how many vehicles were involved in the crash. Police on scene were not able to make any comments regarding the accident, which occurred at the intersection of Portland Street and Columbus Avenue.

Debris surrounds the cruiser which sustained significant front-end damage.


Traffic was cut off to the intersection with drivers having to find an alternate route through the downtown.
The Rochester Police shift supervisor was not immediately available for comment.
It was not clear if there had been a hospital transport, however an ambulance was spotted at the scene.

It did appear that at least some of the airbags in the cruiser deployed.
