Police on lookout for female suspect in kidnap try of 5-year-old at Common

ROCHESTER - City police today are investigating an attempted kidnapping at the Common on Tuesday.

The incident unfolded around 5 p.m. when Rochester Police responded to the Rochester Commons for a report of an attempted kidnapping.

The caller stated a woman briefly took hold of her 5-year-old son's head before saying, "I am taking you for a walk" while leading him away by the hand, police said in a press release this morning.

The caller said her older son then ran over and grabbed the boy to take back to their mother, who then confronted the woman.

Police say the suspect then walked off and left in a black SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Equinox type vehicle with tinted windows.

As the woman walked off, another person at the Commons was able take a brief recording of her. She is described as having gray hair and was last seen wearing all black clothing.

Police say the encounter never became physical.
