KINGSTON - Kingston Police are looking for the driver of a 2000-2006 blue GMC Yukon suspected of fatally rear-ending a retired Hudson police sergeant who was bicycling on Route 125 Tuesday as she trained for an upcoming police ride.

Police say they began looking for Donna Briggs, 59, of Derry, around 8:30 p.m. and found her while searching the area along Route 125 southbound near New Boston Road, where they found the bicycle and the rider down an embankment off the shoulder of Route 125. Briggs was pronounced deceased on scene.

Based upon evidence it appears that Briggs was struck from behind by a motor vehicle traveling southbound, which then left the scene, police said. Video from nearby businesses and other footage helped to identify the vehicle, which has damage to the front passenger side.

The crash occurred around 11:35 a.m. police say.

At the request of the Kingston Police Department, the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and assumed control of the investigation. The New Hampshire State Police CAR Unit was assisted on scene by Troopers from the Troop A Barracks, as well as the Kingston Police and Fire Departments.

At this time, it is unknown why the vehicle struck Briggs or why it left the scene. Anyone who may have further information related to this crash, or that were traveling in that area around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday is asked to contact Tr. Eric Torrens 603-545-4396 or email at Eric.M.Torrens@dos.nh.gov.
