PORTSMOUTH - Police are now asking for help from the public in identifying the body of a man found floating in the Piscataqua River Friday evening.

Police were called to investigate after an employee of the Surf restaurant noticed the body drifting in river a little after 6 p.m. It was recovered by recovery teams around 7:30 p.m. near Henderson Point.

An autopsy was ordered to determine the man's cause of death, but its scheduling has not been announced by officials.

Police describe the male as between the ages of 50 and 60, about 5'6" and 150 pounds with gray hair and beard. The man has several tattoos: a bear on his left shoulder, a deer head on his right shoulder and a rose on his back.

The Portsmouth Police Department is asking the public to report any missing persons in the area fitting the description.
