ROCHESTER - The two new candidates for Rochester mayor include a former city councilor and a political newcomer who calls himself a "blue-collar guy" just trying to make ends meet.
Pete Lachapelle, who spent six year on the City Council and two years as deputy mayor; and political newcomer Douglas Robbins joined NH Home Builders Association CEO Matt Mayberry and former state rep and city councilor Chuck Grassie in the race for the city's top elective office.
Robbins told The Rochester Voice on Wednesday that the city spends too much money at the expense of taxpayers.
"One of the biggest issues facing our community is wasteful spending," he said. "The city budget is funded by taxpayers, and it's critical that we use those funds wisely. I will fight to identify and cut wasteful spending and ensure every dollar is used effectively for our community."
Lachapelle, who was not immediately available for comment, officially announced his candidacy on Tuesday.

State Sen Jim Gray and state rep Kelley Potenza both dropped out of the race last week.

Lachapelle has not started a campaign Facebook page, but Robbins' page can be seen by clicking here.
