ROCHESTER - Nearly two weeks after the tragedy occurred, Police continue to investigate an accident that claimed the life of a Rochester woman who was fatally struck while crossing Columbus Avenue in her mobility scooter, Rochester Police Capt. Todd Pinkham said today.
Fifty-seven-year-old Cindy Aspinall was killed when a southbound vehicle crashed into her scooter as she sought to traverse Columbus Avenue in the crosswalk near Kentucky Fried Chicken around 1:55 p.m. on Jan. 30.
The crosswalk where the crash occurred crosses from Upham to May street.
The City Council a week ago unanimously approved a set of flashing crosswalk beacons for the sidewalk where Aspinall was fatally struck.
The vote came just four days after her death.
In her obituary published last week Aspinall was described as a woman who suffered multiple health issues, including a heart defect as a child and later in life cerebral palsy, but maintained a positive and cheerful attitude.
She was also known for her love of cats and daily rides on her scooter.
The driver of the car still has not been named by police.
Anyone who witnessed the accident is encouraged to contact the Rochester Police Department at (603) 330-7128.
