To the editor:

We're feeling the consequences of reckless spending in Washington. Fortunately, New Hampshire usually makes more prudent fiscal decisions, and that means delivering relief for local taxpayers.

Our conservative state budget has grown the economy and produced record revenues. That's allowed us to put together a tax relief package of bills that will deliver more than a half-billion dollars in statewide tax relief for New Hampshire families.

In Senate District 6, I have already delivered nearly $9 million to help lower property taxes. This includes more than $1.2 million for increased revenue sharing under the Rooms and Meals Tax, more than $1.1 million for local road construction, and more than $1.2 million for municipal bridge projects. Last year, we cut the Statewide Education Property Tax (SWEPT), saving taxpayers in our district more than $3.4 million. We also helped school districts with the greatest financial need, including more than $1.7 million for schools in Farmington and Rochester.

It has always been my top priority to be a good steward of taxpayer money. This approach has provided tax relief that puts more money back into the pockets of hard-working Granite State families.

- Sen. James Gray,

District 6

Rochester
