CONCORD - The Secretary of State's Office is reminding New Hampshire voters of the annual voter checklist verification process required by state law.

Under state law, supervisors of the checklist/registrars--who are responsible for adding and removing names from their city or town's voter checklist--must hold public sessions between today and Aug. 1 to determine which voters on the checklist have not voted in any elections in the past five years and who have not registered since the 2024 State General Election. These voters are required to reregister if they wish to remain on the voter checklist and vote in future elections.

Supervisors of the checklist must inform any voter eligible for removal, at least 30 days before removing their name from the voter checklist, that they will be removed and must reregister by following the instructions in the letter or postcard. Supervisors of the checklist/registrars are required by law to remove these voters from the checklist no earlier than June 1, even if they know the voter still resides in town.

Individuals who have permanently moved out of town do not need to respond to the letter, as they will be removed from the checklist.

Voters can visit app.sos.nh.gov to find their local clerk's contact information and check their voter registration status.

"Our local election officials work hard every day to ensure that qualified voters in their communities are given the opportunity to exercise their right to vote," said David Scanlan, Secretary of State. "I applaud their efforts and encourage all New Hampshire voters to verify their registration information is up to date."

The State Primary Election will take place on Sept. 8, 2026. Visit www.sos.nh.gov/elections for more information on registering to vote.
