Revamped Assessors Office expected to open on Monday

ROCHESTER - The City of Rochester will be reopening the Assessor's Office after several weeks of reconstruction to the interior.

The building, which sits directly next to City Hall, previously housed the Tax and Auto Registration Office before relocating to the James W. Foley Memorial Community Center in 2021.

According to Chief Assessor, Jonathan Rice, the reconfiguration will better serve the needs of his department and improve their ability to serve the people of Rochester.

"The old configuration was challenging," said Rice. "Now that the Tax Office and Auto Registration has moved, our team will finally be all together on one floor, have sufficient space to collaborate with one another, and have the ability to meet privately in-person with property owners."

Rice says the Assessor's Office is tentatively slated to reopen on Monday, for normal business hours. Until then, the department will continue to hold public sessions in Council Chambers, on the first floor of City Hall, 31 Wakefield St.

The next session is scheduled for Thursday from 2:30-4:30 p.m., and Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Changes to the schedule, if any, will be posted on the Assessor's webpage.
