ROCHESTER - Richard "Dick" Douglas of Rochester died on Saturday, April 27, 2024, at the age of 82.

Richard was born on June 3, 1941, to Gordon and Margaret Douglas and raised in Middleton with his sister Patty and brother Ronny. He married the love of his life, Marianne Scala in 1958 and together they created their lifelong home in Rochester. Their family soon expanded to include his two most beloved daughters, Debbe and Angie.

Richard was a tireless worker and supporter of his family. He began at R.C. Mooney Inc. in Middleton for many years. He later became the co-owner of Scala's Sandwich Shop, which included booths at both the Rochester Fair and the Inn Towne Restaurant. After 23 years of small business success, he decided for a change and worked for the State of New Hampshire Department of Transportation as Patrol Foreman of the Spaulding Turnpike. He held this role for the next 17 years. After retiring from the State of New Hampshire, he went on to work part-time at New Style Homes in Rochester.

Over the years Richard was a member of the Elks Club and the Lions Club of Rochester. He enjoyed summers in Milton and yearly trips to the Amish Country in Pennsylvania. He loved to travel, including treks cross-country, beach time in Cocoa Beach, Fla., and many family trips with his grandchildren to Walt Disney World. Many of his fondest memories were trips throughout the years with family and his closest friends. In more recent years, his favorite pastime was watching and spending time with his four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was often found watching them playing sports, performing, and celebrating their life accomplishments. He relentlessly took every opportunity to spend as much time with them as possible.

Richard is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marianne Scala Douglas; his two daughters, Debbe and her husband Norman Sanborn Jr of Rochester, Angie and her fiancé Paul Berry Jr also of Rochester. He leaves behind his adored four grandchildren, Staci and her husband Matt Benjamin of Rochester, Christina and her husband Dr. Ryan Joyce of Madbury, Jessica Gray of Tampa, Fla., and Alex Gray and his wife Abbey of Barrington. He was also extremely blessed to have six great-grandchildren, Elijah and Matalena Benjamin, Elizabeth and Winston Joyce, and River and Denver Gray. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Margaret Douglas, brother Ronald Douglas, sister Patricia Goldthwaite, sister-in-law Shirley Douglas, brother-in-law Karl Goldthwaite, and son-in-law Richard Gray.
