ROCHESTER - Richard J. Gravel Sr., 79, died Monday, Aug. 11, 2014, at his home surrounded by his family, after a period of failing health.

Richard was born in Claremont, on May 11, 1935, the son of Arthur and Alice (Wilson) Gravel and had lived most of his life in Rochester moving from Claremont. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, collected watches and was a longtime friend of Bill W.

Surviving member of the family include: his wife, Madelaine (Tanguay) Gravel of Rochester, one son, Richard J. Gravel Jr. of Rochester, three daughters, Kim Deschenes of Limerick, Maine, Karen Crosby of Rochester, and Kelly Busick of Somersworth, eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
