LINCOLN - At any New England ski resort town you're sure to find a host of luxury lodging options, but there can only be one best.

At Loon that would be the RiverWalk Resort at Loon Mountain.

Their mantra, emblazoned on the edifice of their Lincoln property, says it all: "Experience extraordinary."

With beautiful views of pristine mountains on one side and the quaint village of Lincoln on the other, this gem of a luxury hotel has everything a family outing, romantic getaway or ski weekend could ever want.

The RiverWalk comprises a range of suites from studio to Penthouse. All except the studios have full kitchens complete with everything you need to cook up a full meal.

We stayed in a one-bedroom that came with a king in a master bedroom that also sported a soaker tub and beautiful mountain views.

In the main room a full-sized couch, a center island in the kitchen area and a Murphy bed that served as an additional table and chairs by day gave plenty of seating options for quality family time.

And the 20-30 foot ceilings gave an extra degree of open concept airiness.

The bathroom was spacious with a walk-in shower and all the amenities you would expect in a five-star hotel.

The amenities extended far beyond our quarters.

In the winter, their Lagoon Pool is fashioned into a skating rink, while the heated upper deck pool is open for swimming.

When you venture out beyond thick plastic flaps for a nighttime swim you see the steam coming off the water, feel the sting of the cold on your face against the water's warmth and hear rock music and laughter in the nearby hot tub.

After a few laps it was time for a soak, where we felt snug as a bug in a rug amid the single-digit temps.

Earlier in the day we stopped by the tasting room for Seven Birches Winery, which is produced and sold onsite.

You can get a generous tasting of five different varietals for just $17.

They also have one of the most spacious game rooms I've ever seen for the kids, the Solstice North Day Spa for mom and a restaurant next to the lobby for breakfast and dinner.

And talk about friendly. From front desk to housekeeping the service was - like the signs says - "Extraordinary."
