ROCHESTER - Robert E. Gilman, 96, of 26 Cross Road died on Sunday December 1, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born September 4, 1923 in Albany, he is the son of Reed and Maude (Thurston) Gilman

Bob has lived in Rochester since 1937 after moving from Conway where he grew up. He enjoyed gardening and his cars. Bob was not afraid of hard work. He enjoyed everything outdoors under the sun such as gardening, manicuring his lawn and flower gardens. Bob had a good work ethic and was a very hard worker. Whether working as a rigger for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, or in the woods as a woodsman or even as a road worker, he loved them all. He was employed as a rigger at the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard for 20 years until his retirement in 1985. After retirement, he and his wife Loraine would spend their winters in Zephrhills, Fla., where they would enjoy the warm weather and many friends in their community. He was a member of Nute Bible Chapel in Milton.

Members of his family include his loving wife, Loraine (Kellogg) Gilman of Rochester, his son, David Gilman and his wife Kym of Rochester, his daughter, Barbara Daigle and her husband Brian of Lebanon Maine, his grandchildren; Anna Short, Adam Gerry, Devan Knott and Eric Gilman, his great grandchildren; Caleb and Aiden Azzopardi and Alexis Short.
