FRESNO, Texas - Robert E. Godfrey, 85, of Fresno, beloved husband of Judith (Keller) Godfrey, died Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Inspired Living Care, Sugarland.

He was born in 1936 in Plainfield, N.J., to Edmund D. Godfrey and Madelyn (Haggerty) Godfrey. Besides his wife of 52 years, Robert is survived by a son, Benjamin Godfrey, and his wife, Alicia (Andrus) Godfrey, Missouri City; a daughter, Susannah "Cait" Godfrey, Fresno; a son-in-law, Adam Pouliot, Peterborough, N.H.; a nephew, Kevin Godfrey and his wife, Kristen, Apopka, Fla.; a brother-and-sister-in-law-and-in-love, John and Carlene (Keller) Fraughton, Lynn, Mass. and a sister-in-law, Maureen Keller, Methuen, Mass.

He treasured his grandchildren: Alexandra (Pouliot) Allen-Byam, Peterborough; Michael Tola-Godfrey, Trumbull, Conn.; and Maddie and Max Godfrey, Missouri City.

He was predeceased by his much-loved younger sister, Cornelia "Corky" Godfrey in 2002, and his cherished daughter, Elisabeth Godfrey (Pouliot) in 2010.

Robert served four years in the Navy Reserves before serving for five years in the USAF (active/SAC). The Air Force assigned him to New Hampshire, where he met his wife, Judith. They married and made their home in Rochester, N.H. Self-taught, and without a college degree, Robert had a successful career in many engineering fields, both defense and civilian design and manufacturing; he held several patents. He retired from Moore Business Forms, Dover, N.H., after 24 years.

Robert was witty and charming; with a twinkle in his eye and a ready grin on his face, he was always willing to assist anyone in need. He was a magnet for small children and animals.

He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
