Rochester-area responders ready to roll up their sleeves; virus shots begin today

CONCORD - COVID-19 vaccinations for local first responders and high-risk ambulatory care providers begin today at the National Guard Armory on Brock Street, Gov. Sununu announced on Monday.

DHHS Commissioner Lori Shibinette said she was pleased with the response those next in line to get the shots reacted to the news.

"We are making great strides in deploying the COVID-19 vaccine to people working on the front lines and at highest risk of exposure. We have heard from many first responders and high-risk healthcare workers who work directly with patients and are scheduling their vaccine appointments starting tomorrow," she said on Monday. "This represents another important milestone in ending the pandemic in New Hampshire. A dozen other vaccinations sites across the state will also be activated today.

First responders eligible to be vaccinated under Phase 1A will be alerted to schedule a vaccination appointment through professional associations, licensing boards, provider groups, and first responder organizations.

This second round of vaccinations should be completed by mid-January, officials said.

Meanwhile, DHHS announced 861 new positive test results for COVID-19, for a current PCR test positivity rate of 9.3 percent.

The newly identified cases include 99 minors and 85 from Strafford County.

Locally, current case counts show 168 in Dover, 138 in Rochester, 36 in Somersworth, 29 in Barrington, 27 in Farmington, 19 in Milton and 15 in Strafford.

DHHS also announced seven additional deaths related to COVID-19, including a man and woman from Strafford County, both over 60.

There are currently 269 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19.
