ROCHESTER - J. L. Long, Rochester author and the host of the monthly Rochester Writers Night literary salon, has just released his first novel, A Slow-Motion Suicide.
This coming-of-age novel follows two young teens as they explore the shocking hidden truths of their claustrophobically small town and the varied cast of characters who inhabit it, focusing on the rumors surrounding 15-year-old Nathan Klein, who may or may not have killed himself a few years prior.
The official book launch and live reading by the author is scheduled for the September Rochester Writers Night event on Sept. 16. The reading will be held at RiverStones Custom Framing, located at 33 N. Main Street in downtown Rochester, and begin at 6 p.m. An open mic for other writers will follow.
"Julian ... has had an enthusiastic response from listener when he read for several open mics," says former Rochester poet laureate Pat O'Brien. "Julian's style is varied, and his talent is equally applied to comedy, mystery, and drama."
The book is available through Lulu Books (www.lulu.com/spotlight/jllong) in both ebook and paperback formats.
About the author
Julian (J. L.) Long lives in Rochester with his spouse, three cats, and crushing student loan debt. He has the hugest possible writer crush on Shirley Jackson, and his fictional boyfriend is Agatha Christie's Hercule Poirot. When not writing, he enjoys reading, watching detective shows, petting his cats, and playing infinite levels of Super Mario Maker.
